Projects
Lake Cunningham - water quality and sail ability after lake has water again this year?
3/26/09 Few of us have been cutting down trees as City of Omaha gave permission to do so.  As you can see still few hundred more to go.... need about another 4-6 man hours to clear out what we can still access before water gets to high.

See YouTube 360 view of area . I am standing on road, which normal water level would be about 4-5' height on me. So the trees you see over 4' tall would be sticking out of the water, unless we cut them down:

Branched Oak Lake Area 11 Launch

3/14/09 Update - Found that if we use jute or burlap for sandbags, they are biodegradable. We just need obtain about 50 bags at est cost of $25, and a truck or two loads of sand.  Tom thinks we may be able to get sand delivered for about $200. We will also need to do some rock/dirt digging and moving in area for sand steps, so we'll need shovels, pry bars etc and several strong people to help out. Perhaps we can get the logistics aligned and work on this project in next weekend or two.  Email members@newindsurfing.com with any comments or if you can pitch in a help. Robert

The January 2009 meeting we agree to pitch in and work on making the windsurfing launch at Area 9, by Marina store a better and safer launch.  Early February I rode the Harley out to lake on a nice 60 degree day and check out the status of the launch. It is actually worst now then it was last year!  Somehow the ice push the rocks up and/or the grassing land near the rock shore sunk down, making the shore line steeper rock slide. Pat in Lincoln is working on contacting the ranger to get permission for the club to arrange the rocks and add sand bags to create a safer launch in and out of the water. This access point is actually has good access to the wind line most the time, making it a worth effort and cost for sand bags or whatever we end up using to make the steps. 2/14/2009

Sail-Aways
Corpus Christi TX Trip March 20 to 29th!
Meet up with Low Boom Larry, Randy and the gang from Des Moines at Bird Island Basin this March 20th, 2009. John Hass mentioned going, and I may be saving for Disney World, but who knows maybe I'll go go anyway and also check out South Padre Island. Surely sailors who go will be working on beating their personal best hours sailing and speed on their windsurfing gear. Contact Robert for more information or just show up. Robert 2/14/2009
